MN Nice starts at home
June 25-29 marked Red Wing's second year of MN Nice, the community outreach summer program offered by several Red Wing churches for youths who will have completed fifth through seventh grades.
Middle school students completed four days of service, spending two days hiking up the trail off of Red Oak Street to cut down and remove oriental bittersweet, an invasive species. Volunteers from Friends of the Bluffs provided education and assistance.
Students spent a day preparing treats for homebound residents and wrapped up the week with a trip to Feed My Starving Children, based out of Eagan, Minn.
"This year we wanted to help in our own community and outside by packing meals for children in the world. We had a great week of service and fun," said co-organizer Tina Goeman of First Lutheran Church.
