Bloomington - Joseph Pihl Lantz, died peacefully at 1:10 AM at Advocate Bromenn Medical Center in Normal. He was 82.
Joe was born in St. Cloud, MN in the days before Christmas, the son of Everett and Beatrice Pihl Lantz. He was named after his maternal grandfather, Joseph Pihl. When he was young the family moved to Red Wing, MN and all his life he maintained a love and pride in that small beautiful city.
After graduating from the University of Minnesota he married Peggy Berglund. They settled in Red Wing and raised their family while Joe joined his father in his optical business. After his divorce Joe sold the business and moved to Chicago where with a business partner he opened the Godiva Chocolate Boutique in the recently-opened Water Tower Place. After a decade in the chocolate business he returned to the optical business working until his retirement as a regional sales manager for an Italian eye ware manufacturer.
While in Chicago Joe met Steve Quinton, who has been his partner in life and adventure for the past thirty-four years. Steve survives as do his son and daughter in law, Christopher and Gayle Lantz of San Clemente, CA, daughter Catherine Hooper of Red Wing, MN, grandchildren Kyle, Matthew, Amy, David, Elizabeth, Samuel and Tracy; great-grandchildren, Briley, Landon and Zoe and brother and sister in law John and Patricia Lantz of Gig Harbor, Washington and their family.
A memorial service celebrating all things Joe will be held later this summer in Red Wing. Back in the 90's Joe found a motto. "Life is not a dress rehearsal" It fits perfectly with how he lived his life.
