Boys Soccer: Wingers notch first win of season
The Red Wing boys' soccer team received gratification on Thursday after being on the winning side of a shutout. The Wingers defeated Pine Island/Zumbrota-Mazeppa, 2-0, at Russ "Cougar" Marshall Field.
Bryan Lopez put the Wingers on the scoreboard first, with a goal assisted by Jeyson Roque. The final goal was put in by Roque, assisted by Lopez.
Erick Fuentes stopped all four shots he faced for Red Wing, while his counterpart, Jose Fernandez, stopped eight out of 10 attempts.
Red Wing (1-6) heads to Lake City for a tournament on Saturday.
PIZM (2-5) next travels to Caledonia on Saturday.
The Red Wing boys' soccer team was held off the scoresheet for the third time in a row, losing 4-0 to Faribault on Tuesday.
Keegyn McNamee stopped 10 out of 14 shot attempts, while the Wingers were only able to get five shots on goal.
